NEW CHAPTER FOR PIEMONTE IN AUSTRALIA

Australian Piemontese Association NSW Launches to Celebrate Heritage and Culture

A new cultural organisation dedicated to celebrating the heritage, traditions and achievements of Italy’s Piemonte region has been established in New South Wales.

The Australian Piemontese Association NSW (APA NSW) was founded in June 2026 by Mara Giribaldi Gullotta in honour of her Piemontese family and, in particular, her late father, Tito Giribaldi, with the aim of preserving and promoting Piemontese culture for future generations.

APA NSW aims to continue the valuable work previously undertaken by La Famiglia Piemontese, while bringing a fresh perspective through a young and dynamic committee committed to bringing together people of Piemontese heritage, Italian Australians and all those who share a love of Piemonte.

A vision rooted in heritage

“Piemonte has given the world extraordinary contributions in culture, industry, gastronomy and tradition,” said President Mara Giribaldi Gullotta.

“Our goal is to ensure that these traditions continue to flourish here in Australia while welcoming new generations to discover and celebrate their heritage.”

While renowned for its Barolo and Barbaresco wines, Alba’s prized white truffles, the rich chocolate tradition that gave birth to Gianduja and other culinary traditions, Piemonte is also one of Italy’s most important industrial and economic powerhouses.

Home to global names such as Ferrero, Lavazza, FIAT/Stellantis and Martini & Rossi, the region has long been recognised for innovation, entrepreneurship and excellence.

From the rolling hills of the Langhe and Monferrato, now recognised as UNESCO World Heritage landscapes, to the elegant boulevards and historic cafés of Torino, Italy’s first capital, Piemonte’s influence extends far beyond its borders.

APA NSW hopes to showcase this rich cultural and economic heritage through community events, cultural initiatives and educational activities.

At its heart, the Association aims to strengthen community connections, celebrate Piemontese identity and ensure traditions are passed on to future generations.

First public event announced

Although the Association’s official launch is planned for later this year, APA NSW will host its first public event with a screening of Trifole, a film set in Piemonte that celebrates one of the region’s most cherished traditions, the search for the prized white truffle.

The event will bring together members of the Piemontese community, Italian Australians and friends of Piemonte, providing an opportunity to celebrate the region’s culture, history and traditions while marking the beginning of an exciting new chapter for the Association.
