Perth Mother Killed at Home, 12-Year-Old Girl Seriously Injured as Teenage Son Is Arrested

A 35-year-old mother has been killed and a 12-year-old girl seriously injured in what Western Australia Police believe was a family violence incident at a home in Bentley.

The woman’s 16-year-old son was arrested at the scene and remains in police custody. No charges have yet been laid.

Homicide detectives and forensic officers are examining the Mills Street property, which remains cordoned off as investigators work to establish exactly what happened inside the home.

Emergency Services Called to Bentley Home

Emergency services were called to the property at about 6.15am on Tuesday.

Police found the 35-year-old woman inside the house with fatal stab wounds.

Despite the efforts of emergency responders, she could not be saved.

A 12-year-old girl who was also inside the home suffered serious injuries but managed to escape and call triple zero.

Injured Girl Found 600 Metres Away

The girl was found about 600 metres from the property near Albany Highway.

Passing motorists stopped to help her before paramedics arrived.

She was rushed to Perth Children’s Hospital, where she remains in a serious but stable condition.

Police have expressed particular concern for the child as she continues to receive medical treatment.

Sixteen-Year-Old Arrested

The woman’s teenage son was arrested at the scene and remains in custody while detectives continue their investigation.

Police have not disclosed the precise circumstances of the arrest or publicly detailed what role they believe the boy may have played in the incident.

His position remains under investigation and no formal charge has been filed.

As the suspect is a minor, strict legal restrictions apply to the publication of identifying information.

Western Australia Police are treating the woman’s death as a suspected family violence homicide.

Detective Acting Inspector Jessica Securo said there was no continuing danger to the public.

“I can confirm there is no ongoing risk to the wider community,” she told reporters.

She said the incident would have a profound impact on the family, friends and loved ones of everyone involved, as well as the broader Bentley community.

Police Express Sympathy

Detective Acting Inspector Securo expressed sympathy for the woman’s relatives and the injured girl.

“Our thoughts are with them all, particularly the 12-year-old girl who remains in hospital receiving treatment,” she said.

The property remained behind police tape throughout Tuesday as detectives began collecting evidence and speaking with potential witnesses.

Detectives Doorknock Neighbourhood

Officers have been doorknocking nearby homes as they attempt to reconstruct the events leading up to the fatal incident.

Investigators are seeking witnesses and reviewing any available CCTV, doorbell camera recordings and dashcam footage from the area.

“As part of this process, investigators will examine all available evidence and speak with relevant witnesses,” Detective Acting Inspector Securo said.

Detectives will also work to determine the precise sequence of events, how the confrontation began and the relationship between everyone present in the house.

Bentley Community Left in Shock

The death of a mother, the serious injury of a young girl and the arrest of a teenager have left the Bentley community deeply shaken.
