The first edition of the geographically focused Summer School was hosted at the University of Central Asia Campus in Naryn, surrounded by the magnificent Tien Shan mountains, co-organized by the National Research Council of Italy. More than 20 participants from Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Uzbekistan, with different backgrounds attended an intensive two-week program of lectures, field trips, and working groups concerning the mountains and cryosphere
