Stronger Network of Italian Chambers Abroad
Italy’s network of Chambers of Commerce Abroad is set to receive stronger institutional support through a new Parliamentary Intergroup created to enhance cooperation, visibility and strategic coordination between lawmakers and business organisations operating internationally.
Speaking on the sidelines of the 35th Convention of the Italian Chambers of Commerce Abroad (CCIE), currently taking place in Genoa, Nicola Carè, Democratic Party member of Parliament elected overseas and president of the newly established Parliamentary Intergroup, highlighted the importance of building a stronger connection between Parliament and the global network of Italian chambers.
“We are attending the 35th Convention of the Italian Chambers of Commerce Abroad, and it is important for parliamentarians to be here because we have created an Intergroup dedicated to promoting this network,” Carè said.
“The goal is to create a platform for dialogue between the Chambers, Assocamerestero and Parliament, fostering not only coordination on projects but also a system that can work together more effectively, particularly in supporting initiatives that the Chambers can offer abroad.”
Carè stressed that lawmakers have a key role in raising awareness of the chamber system within Parliament and strengthening dialogue with relevant ministries.
He also underlined the strategic importance of Italian communities abroad, not only from a business perspective but also in terms of political and diplomatic relations.
“The relationships that entrepreneurs and Italian communities maintain with local political leaders make them a valuable support network for Italy’s broader diplomatic efforts around the world,” he said.
According to Carè, global markets are undergoing profound transformations driven by shifting geopolitical balances, evolving supply chains, new environmental standards, technological innovation, changing customs regulations and increasingly complex competitive dynamics.
In this environment, the Made in Italy brand remains a major strength, but quality alone is no longer sufficient.
“Businesses need a stable presence in international markets and support in navigating increasingly complex environments,” he noted.
“In this context, Chambers of Commerce are becoming more important than ever. They are trusted reference points and can serve as Italy’s compass in a rapidly changing world.”
Carè noted that the Parliamentary Intergroup was created with a cross-party approach, reflecting the national importance of exports and the promotion of Made in Italy.
“When we speak about exports and Made in Italy, we are not talking about political divisions but about the national interest,” he said.
“Italy already has a deeply rooted international network. We must believe in it more and support it better.”
